By Kwame Alexander and Jerry Craft
New York : Little, Brown and Company, 2025. Fiction. 226 pages.
This book, co-written by two Newbery Award winners, tells the story of two students vying for ultimate supremacy in their school's writing contest. J is excellent artistic storyteller. Everyone loves his stories, even if they don't have any words in them. So he's not worried at all that new kid K is clearly a masterful writer. Especially since he can't "draw a straight line if he had a ruler." But just in case maybe he should give him some "helpful" advice about how to be a better artist. Who will win the competition? And will they ever see they might be better off together than they could ever be on their own? You'll have to read it to find out.
Given the powerhouse duo that wrote this book, you would expect a winner and you will not be disappointed. If someone in your house is a fan of the Diary of a Wimpy Kid series, this is a great one to give them. They'll not only have fun, they'll learn more about the writing process from children's literature legends.
