Zap! Clap! Boom!

If you want an easy introduction to thunderstorms for your youngest readers at home, this one is a great choice! Through poetry, this book tells the story of a thunderstorm rolling into town. While it does delve into the science of thunderstorms in the pages (with phrases like, "warmer air begins to rise"), it doesn't get too bogged down with the science either. Through it all, it remains an upbeat story. Even your most thunderstorm adverse kids will love yelling "Zap! Clap! Boom!" with you as you read. For those who want to use this as a springboard to delve further into the science of thunderstorms, there is additional information at the end of the book to learn interesting facts about storms.
The illustrations in this book really standout as well. MacKay's layered paper illustrations really capture the storm moving through the island and how the land changes both during and after the storm. If you need an accessible poetry book for even young kids to complete The Great Genre Challenge, this book is for you!
