Five Faves: Adoption Picture Books

Children become a part of families in different ways. Some children are born into a family and others are adopted into a family. Every situation is special and unique. When children become a part of a family through adoption, there are all kinds of emotions and experiences that both the child and the family experience. Here are some picture books that talk about some different adoption stories.

This sweet picture book shows all kinds of different adoption situations and the families that the children go to. Some of the children are adopted when they are older, from far away, and some are adopted right after they are born. This illustrates the experiences of the children coming to their new homes for the first time and slowly integrating into their new families.

This book is based on a true story about a little boy named Michael and how he was adopted by a loving family. It shows how they go to a courtroom with many supportive friends and family and Michael is officially adopted.

This adoption story is unique and shows how a community comes together to raise four children that come to their island. Four babies are found in different ways, by plane, by ferry, and by fishing boat all with a note attached that says, to keep the baby safe or give them shelter. The town librarian takes them in and raises them as her own with the help of the town. She names them after famous authors and they have all kinds of adventures.

Daniel is nervous when his family is about to adopt a new little sister. He wants to give her a special gift just from him, so he decides to whistle for her. He practices day and night. When he goes to the hospital to meet his new little sister, he also ends up meeting the birth mother. They become friends as Daniel sees how difficult it is for her to give up her baby. He gives her a special gift to help her feel better.

One day a man named Danny is getting on to the subway and sees an abandoned little baby. He contacts the police and they take the baby to the hospital. As time passes, they try to find a home for the little baby and end up reaching out to Danny and his partner to see his they are interested in adopting the little baby. Based on a true story, this is a heartwarming picture book.
