September Girls Read and Guys Read

Each month we have two book clubs for kids at the Provo City Library! These book clubs are especially designed for kids ages 9-12 and a caregiver. This September, our Guys Read book club will meet September 22 and our Girls Read book club will meet September 27. You can preregister for these programs on the library calendar online, beginning September 1!

This month, Guys Read will be reading:

In this hilarious series opener, legendary prankster Miles Murphy is reluctant to move to a small town away from his friends and his own school. The one highlight, is he knows that he knows he will become the number one prankster at his new school -- until he discovers he is facing serious competition in the form of an inspired mystery prankster. The battle of pranking one-upmanship begins in this highly entertaining read. This is a funny and high-interest read with a lot of kid appeal.

This graphic novel memoir of popular Utah-based author Shannon Hale follows Shannon as she grows up from kindergarten to fifth grade and the friends she makes, loses, and keeps along the way. When Shannon's best friend Adrienne becomes friends with the popular girls in school, Shannon is dragged along through the social politics of elementary school. The colorful and cartoony illustrations are a perfect match for the story and make this a popular graphic novel for kids navigating growing up.

The Memory Spinner Written by C.M. Cornwell New York : Delacorte Press, 2025. Fiction. 281 pages. Fantasy is a genre that I don't often read. When I finish a good fantasy book, I always ask myself why I don't read more of them! This book made me ask myself that exact question. Lavender is a young girl who is struggling after the death of her mother. Her father doesn't like talking about the family's loss, and Lavender feels very alone in knowing how to grieve and cope with her feelings. Making the grieving process even harder for Lavender is the fact that she is struggling to hold on to memories of her mother.  The family runs an apothecary shop where Lavender is an apprentice. She has dreamed of her apprenticeship for a long time, putting in a lot of work to show her father she is a valuable asset.
