April is National Poetry Month and what better way to celebrate than by checking out some books of poetry from the library! As a poetry lover, I look for kids' poetry that is unique, entertaining, and beautifully written. Here are a few recently published books that I am a fan of.
This book is great for poetry beginners. In the table of contents, you'll see poems broken down, explained, and then demonstrated. While reading this, you'll learn about riddles, crescendo, and changing your tone. Each poem is encouraged to be said aloud, so get ready for your young reader to put on a show!
In this collection of poems, you might recognize a few authors like Kwame Alexander and Jane Yolen. These incredible writers have come together in this book to share experiences from their childhood with their unique heritages and traditions. I love being able to see snippets of different families.

Calling all Star Wars lovers! This book of poems is perfect for your little reader who just loves Star Wars. There are poems about Princess Leia, Jedis, and Wookies. These poems are definitely geared to a younger reader but anyone would enjoy the nerdy puns. And of course the opening poem is titled "A Galaxy Far, Far Away...."

My favorite thing about this book of poems is the diversity in the type of poems. There are longer, story poems, short proses, and poems that roam all over the page. Another great thing about this book is the new words you'll learn. This book was originally published in Great Britain, so your young ones will find a few funny words and different phrases than they're used to.
