Five Favorite Book Covers

 Judging a book by it's cover is usually frowned upon, but a beautiful cover is what draws me to a book. I love a good book cover it's like the first bite of a delicious story, and once you have taken that first bite you want to devour the whole thing. Here are some of my favorite book covers from this year.


Alone

I love this cover because of the light coming through the trees and reflecting off of the snow. You can feel the quiet and solitude just from the picture. The scene creates a feeling of loneliness with the single character and her dog. The art conveys a somber feeling and gives you a taste of what someone alone in a rugged wilderness would experience.


The Sea In Winter

The contrast of the cold blue tones and the red jacket immediately caught my eye. I'm a lover of winter so I was drawn to this cover because of the snow on the trees and the beauty of winter that is captured in this picture. This cover made me curious about the girl and I wanted to hear her story and find out why she stared out at the cold sea.


Amber & Clay

What's not to love about this cover with its regal red and gold colors. The statues that hint at Greek mythology are imposing and majestic and add a feeling of adventure. The lightning bolt and the characters at the bottom running with sword in hand make me think of Percy Jackson and the Olympians. It's the perfect cover to draw in lovers of legends.

I want to hang this book cover on my wall! The pencil and watercolor together make an elegant picture with the simple color choices. I loved the sculpted lions with all the attention to detail and the little boy with the hammer who was busy doing his best. This book cover caught my attention and is a definite favorite of mine.


Watercress

A peaceful cover with soft pastel watercolors. What's not to like about it? It's expressive and gives you the feeling of contentment. The girl walking barefoot in the weeds reminded me of my childhood and I was curious about her story.

KPop Demon Hunters has been one of the most talked-about movies of the summer. If you loved this movie as much as I did, you don't want the magic (or the music) to stop. Review: Sole Survivor

  Sole Survivor  Written By Norman Ollestad and Brendan Kiely  New York: Farrar Straus Giroux Books for Young Readers, 2025. 255 pages.  This is a juvenile biography/memoire about the plane crash that Norman Ollestad survived when he was a sixth grader. The book starts off with Norman wining a skiing competition and heading home to play in a hockey game only to head onto an airplane with his dad, his dad’s girlfriend (Sandra), and the pilot so he could go and claim his trophy for the skiing competition. Only, the plane crashed and the pilot and Norman’s dad were killed. Then when Sandra falls and dies as well, Norman is left as the sole survivor from the plane crash in the San Gabriel Mountains during a snowstorm.  Fans of Hatchet or other adventure novels will love reading how Norman survived this ordeal. And they will be even more impressed with the fact that this is a true story and the person who survived and is still alive today. This book goes over all of...
