Atheneum Books for Young Readers, 2020. Picture Book.
At the park on a playground two little girls meet and start spending the day together. They laugh together, make skeleton hands out of leaves, pretend to be pickles, have adventures and enjoy the day. When its time to go home they sadly go their separate ways but they both know they have made a best friend that day.
If you have ever watched children interacting on a playground you see the instantaneous friendships that blossom as they engage with each other. The author Julie Fogliano has created a story that tells this experience in a way that captures the feelings and excitement of a child who just made a new friend. The text and illustrations work harmoniously together. The art with its soft two tone color pallet feels timeless and is visually appealing. Children and adults alike will both enjoy reading this book over and over again.
