When Green Becomes Tomatoes contains poems for all seasons, but it is particularly well suited for reading in one sitting at exactly this time of year. The book begins with a poem for March 20, describing the delicate transition to spring that we are currently experiencing. And it ends with March 20, emphasizing the cycles that make up nature and life itself. Morstad's sweet gouache illustrations perfectly suit Fogliano's evocative free verse observations.
