The Far Side of the Moon: The Story of Apollo 11's Third Man
by Alexander Irvine
Illustrated by Ben Bishop
Tilbury House Publishers, 2017. Informational Comic. 64 p.
This is a handsome comic book about Michael Collins who was on the Apollo 11 Moon Mission. He was the one who stayed in the lunar orbiter while Neal Armstrong and Buzz Aldrin went in the lunar lander to the moon's surface. It is full of interesting facts about Collin's experience, how he felt about being left in the orbiter, and about his later life. Did you know he later became the director of the National Air and Space Museum? The illustrations for the book are all done in black, white, and purple, and do a great job suggesting the overwhelming solitude of space. This is a good choice for space buffs or anyone who enjoys a good nonfiction story.
