Under Their Skin
By Margaret Peterson Haddix
Simon & Schuster Books for Young Readers, 2016. 311 p. Fiction.
If you have a Haddix fan in your home, get ready for her next series! Twelve-year-old twins, Nick and Eryn, are not thrilled when their mother tells them she will be getting remarried. But they are stunned to find out that Michael has children he has never mentioned. When they are informed that they will never even meet Michael's kids, and their visits are scheduled while Nick and Eryn will be away at their dad's house, things start getting strange. The twins are too curious to let it go and break into the step-siblings' locked bedrooms, leading them on a mission to meet Jackson and Ava. What they discover will shatter the only reality they have ever known and send them on a desperate search for the information they need to save the human race.
Under Their Skin is a great read for kids who already love science fiction, but will also capture the imagination of those who have not yet tried the genre. Simultaneously fast paced and thought provoking, this is an excellent middle grade read and a fantastic choice for reluctant readers.
