The Rat with the Human Face
(QwikPick Papers, Book 2)
by Tom Angleberger
Amulet Books, 2015. Fiction. 146 p.
This is the second book of the QwikPick Papers series. After their thrilling trek to see the Poop Fountain, Lyle, Dave and Marilla have been hunting for a new adventure.  They come across what seems to be the perfect quest when they hear a electrician talk about seeing a rat with a human face at a college nature lab at a nearby mountain resort.  The three are determined to get to the resort and see the rat for themselves. The road to the lab is a bumpy one that strains the friendship of the three adventurers, and threatens to destroy the QwikPick Adventure Club for good. Angleberger understands how tweens think and his tween voice is spot on.  He includes plenty of fun and laughs, and even a cute little crush triangle.  This is a quick read, and a great choice for either boy or girl reluctant readers.   Last One Picked By Audrey Meeker New York: Feiwel & Friends, 2026. Comic.  Annabeth has never been very athletic, but that doesn't matter. She is perfectly content to spend her time with her Warrior Princess books and volunteering at the library. When summer comes, her mom is convinced by their stuck up neighbor to send Annabeth to volleyball camp, the last place she would ever want to be. Not only does she feel completely out of her depth, her ex-best friend, Serena, is there- and she is not happy that Annabeth is infringing on her domain. However, with the help of some encouraging coaches and teammates, Annabeth slowly starts to realize that she doesn't mind volleyball so much, and might even have a place on the team after all. This graphic novel will hit home for many tweens, especially as it deals with several relevant topics, such as body image, gaining confidence, and how we should treat others. The illustrations were bright and colorful, and the story itself ...
