Alfred Nobel: The Man Behind the Peace Prize
by Kathy-Jo Wargin
illustrated by Zachary Pullen
J Biography, 2009, Sleeping Bear Press
unnumbered pages
Here's a nice biography for young children; straight forward facts, not too detailed; large, full-spread illustrations; simple explanations and definitions; well written. Wargin does a nice job with this children's version of Alfred Nobel and how the Nobel Prizes came to be. Even more interesting, though, is how Nobel's intentions for his famous invention, dynamite, were the exact opposite of how it is most often used. This gets a high recommend.
