I was surprised to learn that Jacques Cousteau, world know explorer, ecologist, scientist, photographer, author and researcher, started out as a "weak and sickly boy." Growing up in France, he was encouraged to swim in order to build up his strength. As a teenager Jacques was in a car accident and was told that he would have to wear arm braces for the rest of his life. Defying these difficult beginnings, Jacque and his crew developed diving equipment and underwater cameras. They made movies and television shows that exposed and shared the underexplored world of the seas with everyone. The story is simply told, beautifully illustrated and serves as a wonderful informational book, biography, and inspiring story for all ages.
