"Fred Stays With Me" by Nancy Coffelt, illustrated by Tricia Tulsa, Little, Brown and Company, 2007

Divorce can turn a child's world upside down, spending one weekend with mom and the next with dad. The little girl in this picture book explains that some things in her life are still the same, like going to the same school and having the same friends, and some things are different. Fred, her dog, is a big source of consistency. He happily adjusts to "whatever." When mom and dad ask "What shall we do with Fred?" the answer is a no brainer!

This is a lovely book with warm, charming, personality-filled illustrations. It deals with the topic of divorce in a very positive way and empowers the child.

Faces of the Moon by Bob Crelin Illustrated by Leslie Evans Charlesburg; 2009; unpaged Faces of the Moon is a short nonfiction book that describes the different phases of the moon and why the moon appears like it does on certain nights. This book is short and sweet so even the youngest of moon lovers will enjoy it. The layout is simplistic and easy to follow. I don’t know much about the moon so I found it very interesting.
