Emma Rockford will be starting seventh grade and she wants this school year to be perfect. She has studied her late grandmother's instructions for making wishes at an ancient wishing well, and she is certain she can make it happen. With the help of her two best friends, Kennedy and Allie, they search for the secret portal where they can each make four secret wishes. But as luck would have it, at the very moment Emma is sending her wishes into the portal her older brother Noah and the new kid down the street, Jackson, show up. The boys throw their wishes into the portal knocking Emma's wishes aside. Quickly Emma gathers up her wishes and tosses them into the portal right before it closes. She doesn't know if this accident will effect her wishes or not but she will have to wait and see.
Four weeks after the wishes were made, both Kennedy's and Allie's seem to be coming true, but nothing is changing for Emma. Then one day after a school announcement is made, Emma realizes that her wishes are benefitting the new boy, Jackson, instead of her. She begins to wonder if their wishes were somehow switched? Now Emma must find a way to make a little wish switch.
This enjoyable middle grade fantasy book has a little romance, some lessons on friendship, as well as some valuable lessons about the importance of honesty and hard work. A delightful read with a sprinkle of magic.
