Naperville, IL: Sourcebooks Young Readers, 2019. Fiction. 303 pages.
On the outskirts of the city of Drenn, Kyro helps his father in his work as a Star Shepherd. Together, they watch the sky all night looking for falling stars. When one falls, Kyro and Tirin hurry to re-launch the star back to the sky before dawn. In his world, stars hang from hooks in the sky where they protect the people from monsters who love the dark. It's been centuries since creatures have been seen in Drenn and so people don't believe the old stories anymore. Then, stars start falling in big clusters - even during the daytime - prompting Kyro's father to leave to warn the Council, and he doesn't return. Now, Kyro, is left to protect civilization from impending chaos. This is a stand-alone fantasy with steampunk elements and illustrations, it is especially good for younger kids or readers who are needing an introduction into epic fantasy.

New York: Collier Books, 1950. Fiction. 154 pages.
This classic novel, the first in the Chronicles of Narnia series, is the story of four English schoolchildren sent from London to live in the countryside at the onset of World War II. While playing around the house one day, they discover the magic land of Narnia hidden in the back of a wardrobe. The four Pevensies must join Aslan, the golden lion, to triumph over the White Witch who has cursed Narnia with eternal winter. This is a classic fantasy novel for a reason, and it continues to appeal to young readers.
