By Ali Standish
New York, HarperCollins Publishers, 2023. Fiction. 310 Pgs.
It is 1868 and a very observant boy, Arthur Conan Doyle, uses his intellect and quick wits to help him save a baby in a runaway pram. He had no idea that this one act would change his life so drastically. After saving the baby Arthur receives a scholarship and an invitation to attend a prestigious private school in England. The invitation is a life changing opportunity for young Arthur, so he leaves his home in Edinburgh Scotland and travels to England. When he arrives at Baskerville Hall he meets other students who are also new to the school and friendships are made.
Not long after arriving at the school, Arthur and his new friends are offered a chance to join a prestigious secret club called the Clover. In order to join the club they must all go through several initiation rituals to prove their loyalty. The assigned rituals test Arthurs quick wit and deduction skills as well as his honor code. As Arthur completes each assigned task for the Clover, things at the school begin to take a dark turn. It's not long before Arthur and his friends find themselves in the middle of a mystery that could cause Arthur to loose his scholarship and be expelled from the school. It will take Arthurs quick mind and the help of his friends to solve the mystery at Baskerville Hall.
This is a story for all readers but especially those that enjoy books such as Sherlock Holmes or Enola Holmes. It's unique storytelling that combines mystery elements like Sherlock Holmes but takes place in a world similar to Harry Potter. Author Ali Standish has created a new mystery series that gives readers a nice blend of tension and excitement with many twists and turns.
