The Jumbies
by Tracey Baptiste
Algonquin Young Readers, 2015.
Fiction, 234 pgs.
Those glowing eyes in the forest; that voice calling your name in the darkness; the pull on your foot in the water. That's the jumbies.
This book brings to life the horror of Caribbean folk tales as young Corinne gives her all in order to save her family, friends, and island from a threat she didn't believe existed.
This book is scary but not too scary. And it was definitely refreshing to read about legends from another part of the world.
