Robert thinks his teacher, Ms Kirby, is a monster. She stomps, she roars, and she disciplines Robert for throwing a paper airplane in class. One day Robert meets Ms Kirby in the park and is able do a small service for her. The single act of kindness allows both Robert and Ms Kirby to start building a better relationship. Brown uses his stylized watercolor and ink illustrations to show the transformation in Robert's opinion of his teacher as she turns from monster to a normal woman. Almost every child, sometime in their life, will have a teacher they don't like. This book is a good starting point for a discussion about what a child can do to make a relationship with a teacher better.
