Ally wants a dog more than anything in the world, but she cannot have one because of allergies. So Ally decides to make a dog for herself. In the winter she makes a dog out of snow, and when she is done it follows her home and plays with her. When spring comes the snow dog melts, but she makes one of flowers. She makes a sand dog in the summer, and a leaf dog in the fall. Finally she draws pictures of all her dogs, and then starts the cycle again with the first snow. Singleton's lively illustrations match the whimsical mood to the text. Children will enjoy this confident little heroine who uses her imagination to deal with her challenges.
