The Greedy Python
by Richard Buckley, illustrations by Eric Carle
Simon & Schuster, 2012 (reissue with textual changes from 1985) Unpaged Easy Reader
Eric Carle's illustrations from a 1985 picture book are used here with a new text by Richard Buckley to create a brilliant beginning reader about a python who swallows a bat, a bird, a water buffalo, a leopard, even an elephant. When he lies down to sleep they all commence to swimming, flying, kicking, and running around until he feels sick and coughs them all back up again. In the end, he is hungry again so he eats . . . you'll have to read it to find out what, but "the end" is a clue. A delightful and memorable story for children just learning how to read.
