My Crocodile Does Not Bite
by Joe Kulka
Minneapolis : Carolrhoda Books, c2013
unpaged, picture book
The kids are all excited to bring their pets to school for the annual pet show. Each is sure their own pet will win a ribbon, especially Cindy Lou. She thinks her little poodle, Fifi, is the best! She has trained the little dog to do tricks and obey, if Fifi wants to. Her confidence wavers when Ernest shows up with Gustave, a gigantic fierce-looking crocodile. Cindy Lou is afraid the crocodile will hurt her or Fifi physically as well as threatening their chance to win a prize. Ernest says reassuringly, "My crocodile does not bite." But no matter how many times he says it Cindy Lou does not believe. She acts out in anger and jealousy which causes some drama and entertainment at the school's show. If only all pets were as well-behaved as Gustave!
