Max & Ruby's Treasure Hunt
by Rosemary Wells
Viking, 2012. Unpaged. Picture Book
Max, Ruby, Louise, and Lily's picnic is postponed by a thunderstorm, so Grandma sets them on a treasure hunt. Lift-the-Flap clues made up of parts of nursery rhymes send the four bunnies up, down, and around the house until they find the treasure. Rosemary Wells--queen of fun and instructive books for children--has done it again as children learn, or become reacquainted with, the Mother Goose classics - one of the best roads to literacy on earth - while doing the funnest thing for kids: looking for treasure. The bright, colorful illustrations, especially the tiny clues running along the bottom of each page, should attract children by the droves to this "spoonful of sugar" literacy lesson.
