ALA 2017 Youth Media Awards!

What a wonderful day it is already! This morning ALA announced the 2017 Youth Media Awards. And I couldn't be happier with the picks!

Gene Nelson, Provo City Library Director and the rest of the Newbery Committee picked The Girl Who Drank the Moon by Kelly Barnhill as the award winner...which was our library's Mock Newbery pick! I for one am excited that the rest of the committee agreed about just how wonderful this book is! And I am pretty excited about those honor books as well.

The Provo City Library's Mock Caldecott didn't do quite as well as our Mock Newbery. (But we did get two right...just not the winner.) The Caldecott Committee picked Radiant Child: The Story of Young Artist Jean-Michel Basquiat illustrated (and written) by Javaka Steptoe as their winner.

The day they announce these winners is seriously one of my favorite days! (And not just because my reading list gets twice as long afterward!) And don't forget to check out the Odyssey and the Geisel (two of my most favorite awards of the year). Seriously, such good reading. So come to the library and check out all of the favorites! What a happy day!

Winter 2026 Book Boxes

Looking for a new read? We’ve got you covered! Check out one of our Book Boxes for kids ages 9-12. Each Book Box contains a book to check out, as well as envelopes filled with fun surprises that you can open as you read along. We have two new books available to check out! Boxes can be put on hold through the library website, and can picked up at the Circulation Desk. Our One Dead Spy and The Case of the Missing Marquess Book Boxes will each be available to pick up from December 19, 2025 through December 30, 2026.
