Lucy’s Lovey
By Betsy Devany
Henry Holt and Co., 2016. Picture book.
Lucy has many dolls. Seventeen to be exact. But her favorite lovey is Smelly Baby, whom she takes everywhere. Lucy loves how Smelly Baby smells of all their many adventures, even though her sister, Ivy, says she just plain stinks. But times get trying for Lucy when Smelly Baby first gets mauled by an enthusiastic dog and then gets blown out the window. How will Lucy cope without her lovey?
This is a sweet and nostalgic story about the bond between a child and their favorite toy. The lovely detailed illustrations, and especially the facial expressions of the characters, add gentle humor. This one can be enjoyed by young and old.
