A murder of crows, a flush of mallards; who came up with all the wacky collective nouns for different kinds of animals? In this fun new picture book Rosenthal weaves the collective nouns into a rollicking rhyming treat. Each of the couplets makes a pun using the collective noun. "Does a pack of wolves load up bags for vacation?/Does a cast of hawks get a standing ovation?" The rhymes are clever, and the meter is right on. Jago's richly colored illustrations, painted on a textured canvas, are a good match for the text. Although the text is short enough for fairly young readers, the book would make a good read aloud for older grade-school-age kids as well.
