What if You Had Animal Teeth!?
Written by Sandra Markle
Illustrated by Howard McWilliam
Scholastic, 2013. 32 pages. Nonfiction.
What if You Had Animal Teeth!? imagines the possibility of losing your two front teeth, only to have wild animal chompers grow in. On one page is information about a particular animal's teeth (beaver, naked mole rat, etc.) and what they use them for. On the next page is how you, as a human, would experience the animal's teeth! For example: If you were a shark, you'd never have gaps in your smile because new teeth grow in right behind the lost ones. The illustrations are laugh out loud funny. My favorite is shark girl and her dream bubble of tooth-fairy money, as a pile of shark teeth hides under her pillow. The mix of facts, animal photography, and exaggerated illustrations of wild children is entertaining and educational.
