You Can Write an Amazing Journal
by Jennifer Fandel
Capstone, 2012. 24 pgs. Nonfiction.
Beginning readers and beginning writers will get much useful information about journal-keeping and learning to write well from this short but snappy book. Fandel writes on one page about what sort of things might go into a journal and how to go about putting them down--choose a time every day to write until it becomes a habit to do so; write down new things you learn during the day, or things you want to learn about; observe and record what is going on around you. On the facing page, she provides exercises: create a journal on one subject (dreams, sports, nature), or pick a moment that sticks out in your day--record it and tell how it made you feel. Although this book is designed for youngsters who are just beginning to read and write, there is much here to engage prospective journal writers of any age.
