Amanda and Leo were born on the same day. Their parents met in the hospital but didn't really become friends until after they were accidentally double-booked for their respective first birthday parties. After that the kids were inseparable. For the next 9 years they had a fantastic combined birthday party. Something happened at their 10th birthday that caused them to not speak to one another for the following year. Now as their 11th birthday approaches, they are planning separate parties for the first time. Amanda is sad about this, but not willing to forgive Leo for what he did. She makes it through the day and goes to bed looking forward to the day after, a Saturday, so she can stay home and not think about her former best friend Leo. So you can imagine how she felt when her alarm clock woke her the next morning and her parents rushed her out the door to catch the school bus, on a SATURDAY! Amanda somehow has to figure out why she is the only one having to relive her miserable 11th birthday over and over and over again. Then she has to figure out how to fix it so Saturday will finally come.

11 Birthdays is a fun book that will especially be enjoyed by girls in the 4th through 6th grades. The characters are believable as are their actions. So grab this book and laugh out loud as Amanda lives her own version of "Groundhog Day".

The Memory Spinner Written by C.M. Cornwell New York : Delacorte Press, 2025. Fiction. 281 pages. Fantasy is a genre that I don't often read. When I finish a good fantasy book, I always ask myself why I don't read more of them! This book made me ask myself that exact question. Lavender is a young girl who is struggling after the death of her mother. Her father doesn't like talking about the family's loss, and Lavender feels very alone in knowing how to grieve and cope with her feelings.
