Who Put the Cookies in the Cookie Jar?
By George Shannon
Illustrated by Julie Paschkis
Henry Holt and Company, 2013. Picture Book.
Shannon’s rhyming text explains how many hands it really takes to put the cookies in the cookie jar. The hands of the worker who made the cookie sheet, the person harvesting the sugarcane, and including the people who clothe, feed, and educate the workers. Everyone has a part in putting the cookie in the cookie jar. Paschkis’ illustrations provide a worldwide perspective of the jobs described showcasing “many put the cookie in, so one can take it out.”
After reading about how the yummy cookie ends up in the cookie jar, you can make your own sugar cookies from the recipe provided at the back of the book so you can be one of the helping hands who put the cookies in the cookie jar.
