George is pretty brave. He can climb trees, ride a swing up high, and stand up to bullies. He isn't afraid of anything, until the lights go off. In the dark everything is terrifying. Only his faithful bear gives him comfort in the dark, but when his bear goes missing, what can he do? Valentine's text is short enough to make a good read aloud and her cartoon illustrations, reminiscent of Charles Schultz, tell most of the story. This is a great tale for kids who are afraid of the dark, and reaffirms that the greatest courage is not the absence of fear, but the ability to face fear to do what is right.
