Pete the Cat: Pete's Big Lunch
By James Dean
Harper, c2013. 31 pages. Easy reader.
Pete the Cat, with his trademark deadpan expressions, joins the easy reader family in this hilarious new book. It's lunchtime, and Pete thinks a sandwich would be nice to eat. He concocts a sandwich that gets bigger and bigger with each new, impulsive addition. Of course, it's too big to eat all by himself, so Pete calls all of his animal friends on his big cell phone and asks them to come over. The cats and dog arrive via skateboards and bikes, and they all dig in to the delicious sandwich lunch. Some repetition gives this book a nice rhythm, and the message about sharing is subtle but sweet. This could also be a good teaching moment about sequence of events.
